Janie's Record Shop, a small business established 39 years ago in 1985 in San Antonio, TX, by Juanita G. Esparza, better known as "Janie," was created to share with the music-loving public what she had felt in her heart all her life — the gift of music. The shop offered nearly every format available at the time, from vinyl and 8-tracks to cassettes and, later, CDs. Janie’s knowledge of music titles was unparalleled, especially in the Latin market. Customers could give her just a few words from a song, and she would immediately name it. Over the years, her reputation for expertise spread throughout the music industry, making her store the go-to place for both the latest releases and hard-to-find tracks that music lovers had searched for years to locate.

Decades later, with numerous music and city awards to her credit, Janie’s Record Shop became more than just a store—it became an institution. Although Janie passed away in 2021, her daughter and son continue to carry on the vision she had from the start: to share the gift of music. As Janie always said, “Music is life.”
