Now Nick delivers another very personal
album entitled, "CORRIDOS Y CUMBIAS" on which
you once again find that typical Nick's unique humorous
musical flavor.
The first single is an upbeat cumbia
called, "La-Trevi-da." A song based on the infamous
Mexican singer and manager, Gloria Trevi and Sergio Andrade.
Other songs that complement the album are: "La Sugar
Free", "El Carrito", "Corrido de Atlanta",
and "El Marcianito".
Villarreal started playing accordion
when he was five years old and by the age of twelve he
was sitting in with El Conjunto de Joe Ramirez. He played
with various groups through high school, including his
own conjunto with his brothers Roger and David.
Later he played upright bass with Los
Tres Reyes and later he played the bajo sexto. In 1975
he formed Nick Villarreal y Su Conjunto. His biggest hits
included "Brincando Cercas", "La Gallinas
de Pasado", "La-I-Gotta-Go", and "El
Mayor, " a humorous song about former San Antonio
Mayor Henry Cisnero's well-publicized extramarital affair.
In 1994 Nick received a Pura Vida Award as a songwriter.
Also, his band won "Best Traditional Conjunto"
honors the same year.
